Some may not approve of Sam Beam's jazzy experimentation, but the brass bug seems to have infected the past two Iron and Wine records. Alas, Beam dusted off a demo from the early aughts for The Lone Ranger soundtrack. The latest version of "Rattling Bone" opens with the eerie Southern twang and hum of the original, and gradually evolves into something more in line with his recent material.
Hear the original demo version below. The unrefined recording shines with the classic, spectral impression of Beam, and highlights the tune's sweltering soul.
