Here We Go Magic are lying low. Our super-secret, insiderish sources say the Brooklyn band are hunkered down somewhere in Upstate New York, recording a follow-up to A Different Ship. Released in 2012, the band recruited Nigel "F'n" Godrich to lend a hand in the album's production, resulting in a brilliant breakthrough of hypnotizing, oft-kilter indie happenings. That album featured highlights like "Make Up Your Mind" and "How Do I Know"; two songs awash in wily keyboard lines, playful guitar licks, vocal staccato, and general urban funkiness. When it was released, the album marked Luke Temple and his bandmates as the closest thing to the Talking Heads going. Thank god for that.
Last month we managed to persuade the band to take a break from crafting their new studio spells to perch along The East River as part of New York Road Runner's Brooklyn Half Pre-Party. While the band dusted off euphoric versions of both of the aforementioned jams above, the real treat was the mysterious overture that preceded the more familiar material. A sprawling, 10 minute creation that slowly bloomed to life, the band offered a sneak peak of what's to come...the first taste of new Here We Go Magic that we know of. We couldn't have been more thrilled to host it on our stage on that foggy evening back in May and now, for the first time, we're giving you a chance to hear a snippet of the future. Like their 2012 album, it seems this magnificent band of musical visionaries our once again outfitting a different musical ship.
