As much of the world knows by now, Jay-Z is set to release his spontaneous album Magna Carta Holy Grail on the 4th of July through a deal with Samsung Mobile. The newly licensed sports agent recently premiered a commercial for his new album during Game 5 of the NBA Finals. The three-minute teaser features Jay-Z in-studio working with producers Rick Rubin, Timbaland, Pharrell, and Swizz Beatz.
As strange as it is to reveal album plans mere weeks before the actual release, Hov has certainly proven in the past that he is a businessman as well as a rapper. In other words, the man knows what he's doing. On Saturday, Jay-Z's publicist Jana Fleishman tweeted out photos to the rap mogul's dedicated fan base giving them clues as to the whereabouts of an unknown treasure. Whoever bested the scavenger hunt, which took place in Brooklyn, received a folder containing the Magna Carta Holy Grail track list. Upon receiving the folder, one generous fan decided to create this video below:
While no information other than the track list was revealed, Courtney Love (widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain) was kind enough to spill some beans. According to Love, who now owns the rights to all of Nirvana's songs, lyrics from the iconic "Smells Like Teen Spirit" will be featured on one of the songs. On top of that, the track "Holy Grail" will feature Justin Timberlake, with whom Jay-Z will be touring with this summer.
Last, but not least, YouTubers have been "leaking" instrumentals that will supposedly be featured on the upcoming album. Several of the "leaks" (notice the quotation marks) claim to be produced by Pharrell, Timbaland, and Kanye. While it is most likely that all of these instrumentals are illegitimate knock-offs, there are a few of such videos below. From the believable ones to the absolutely-no-way-in-hell ones, feel free to be skeptical.
