Nothing against Donald Glover, but it's been three years since Because The Internet
and we're itching for more Childish Gambino and it looks like that's exactly what we're gonna get! A new app called "Pharos Earth"
was launched by Gambino this weekend, featuring a starry galaxy and an unidentifiable warping sound. The most inventive feature on the app allows users to speed up the background sound, revealing new music expected to appear on the upcoming album.
A trio of shows in Joshua Tree, California on September 2-4 was also announced via the app. Going on sale June 24th, a $99 ticket covers all three shows, as well as camping. Gambino says he will play new music and a full-album experience at what promises to be a series of very special performances.
More and more artists are releasing apps to promote/deliver their music. Examples range from PolyFauna, a visceral visual/auditory experience developed by Radiohead to Fall Out Bird, a Flappy Bird clone with band members heads as a way to promote their new single. Its an interesting approach to music promotion and fan delivery, which will no doubt, become even more popular and commonplace in the near future.
