New dance-rock coming at you from New York:
The Bloodsugars. Despite front man
Jason Rabinowitz's diabetes (and the ironic source of the band name), there is no shortage of sweet on the
BQEP: its four tracks of the good stuff. None of that indie-rock artificial sweetener (sweet and lo-fi?).
The EP was mixed by
Dan Hetzel (
Blondie), so they've got some cred', production-wise... and the music?
Rabinowitz and crew (
Matt Katz,
Brendan O'Grady, and
Kenneth Salters) write a mean dance track, one that makes you want to jump up and move. Each one seems to be unique, and yet they all have Rabinowitz's voice, perfect for the genre, singing well thought-out lyrics over guitars and a sprinkle of synth. Our favorite track, "Cinderella," is just a well balanced combination of beats and hooks, catching your attention and never letting go. "Purpose Was Again" is the perfect opening track to the EP, encompassing all ends of the bands sound. Warning: The Bloodsugars will be stuck in your head all day. -
