This new track from Memphis, TN's
Magic Kids (who are currently on tour with Ariel Pink) comes from their debut album, the aptly-titled
Memphis. Just in time for the titular season, the song is a well-crafted gem of a pop song, complete with strings, harmonies, and the kind of sunny melancholy that Brian Wilson put his stamp on back in the 60s.
In the tradition of new bands like
The Morning Benders, Magic Kids are crafting beautiful, stately songs that are, quite frankly, like beacons of light in the recent sea of murky lo-fi. As such, "Summer" is bright, immaculate, and, with equal parts melancholia and longing, akin to sitting on the beach in August as the last days of summer draw to a close. Seriously, just like that.

Memphis comes out 8/24 on True Panther. -
