Imagine walking through the gates of a theme park while listening to indie music on your ipod...stoned. Sounds sort of perfect, right? Well, you can do all of that without even leaving home, thanks in part to The Silent Years recent album, Let Go. The critically acclaimed album features 6 lengthy tracks (one appropriately titled "Taking Drugs at an Amusement Park") that stimulate all areas of excitement. The tender, yet powerful voice of lead vocalist Josh Epstein and the intricate instrumentals make this a promising album in the indie world.

The Detroit band, consists of five immediate members: vocalist and guitarist, Josh Epstein, bass guitarist, Mike Majewski, pianist, Cassandra Verras, drummer Ryan Clancy, and guitarist Fabian Halabou. But the band does not stop there. There are several other instrumentalists that add to the unbelievable and detailed orchestra of The Silent Years.

If Candyland had a theme song, it would be "Madame Shocking." The track begins with Epstein singing poetically, but gradually leads to an anticipated upbeat and playful tune. As the energetic rhythm of the drums picks up and the bells begin to chime, you should already be in line for an amusement park ride with cotton candy in hand.

Even the more somber songs, like "TV>BJ," display a somewhat circus-like vibe. The less beat-driven song mixed with the fuzzy sound of Epstein's voice form a freak-show image of creepy clowns and midgets covered in mysterious make-up running around the ring.

Sidecho Media released Let Go, on April 21st, 2009 and The Silent Years will be promoting the album during their shows in Michigan this summer. If the songs are as magically fun to listen to online, we can only imagine how breathtaking they will be live. - Lonnie Nemiroff
