It goes without saying that Christopher Wallace, better known as The Notorious B.I.G. is still one of the most well-known names in not only Brooklyn hip-hop, but on a worldwide, legendary scale. B.I.G. was instrumental in bringing tight flows and soulful production back to hip-hop. Twenty years after his murder, the Hip-Hop Hall of Fame is looking to build a statue in his honor at the Putnam Triangle Plaza located in Clinton Hill. While not quite in Bed-Stuy, which was Biggies neighborhood growing up (if you don't know, now ya know).
To fund the creation and placement of the statue, the Hip-Hop Hall of Fame has created a GoFundMe
page. The PR statement reads:
"The BIGGIE Memorial will be a new New York landmark in the neighborhood which still treasures him. The memorial will be a bold reminder of the hip hop and music history which has helped form the creative and cultural landscape of New York City and around the world."
While the memorial would surely be a cultural staple for Brooklyn, it remains to be seen if the plan will actually come to fruition.
As of right now the GoFundMe has only raised $590 out of a targeted $35,000 budget. Whether or not the statue will be built remains to be seen. Follow the link above to help them reach their target.
