, the twelfth studio album from iconic jam band Phish, is due out June 24th. In advance of its release, the group's dropped two tracks from the album, "Waiting All Night" and "The Line." Earlier today, a third song entitled "555" was released, and it's got horns. Like, it definitely for sure has horns. Make no mistake — it may be slightly characterless, jammy, uncomfortable-dad-dance music, but we promise, none of that is important. Take it from these Phish fans.
"555" blends hyper-groovy, electric guitar with theatrical, church-style organ and choral backing (with the aforementioned horns) for a track that steadily gathers itself up and then belly-flops into the inevitable two-minute long jam session. The song is knitted together by vocals delivering vaguely narrative, affirmative lines that probably mean something, such as "They're tying a blindfold across my eyes / I rest my bass down," and "Get up! Jump out! Don't wait! Gotta get away!" Away from what? Not those horns, we hope. Look how hyped your fans are! It's almost as if those horns are the only things keeping them going.
