El Guincho (nee Pablo Das-Reixa), who first rose to prominence with his glee-inducing, poly-rhythmic, tropicalia-flavored debut
Alegranza back in '07, is set to release a series of 12" EPs leading up to the fall release of his second album
Pop Negro.
Each EP will consist of five tracks, each a cover of a traditional South American song. The first of these,
Piratas de Sudamerica, drops on July 13 in the states and a week later in the UK. In interviews, Das-Reixa has expressed a desire to move away from the sample-based sound of his previous record so expect to hear some more live instrumentation on the new tracks (though the tropicalia influence will probably stick).
