• In what has to be the most collaborative project ever, a slew of bands (30 Seconds to Mars, Panic! At The Disco, The Bravery, Deftones, The Academy Is, + 44, and several others) are teaming up with MySpace Records to record a Smashing Pumpkins tribute album that will be distributed by SPIN Magazine
in July, after all the bands have posted their respective covers onto their respective MySpace pages. Got that? If you don't understand - or if really you don't care - you should just wait for the real
Pumpkins album (Zeitgeist
) to drop on July 7th.
• Phil Stacey, the high-singing Navy officer who recently finished 6th on American Idol
, may have to travel overseas now that he's been voted off the show. Although he was given a temporary reprieve while participating in Idol
's sixth season, the L.A. Times
reports that "Stacey could be reassigned or asked to volunteer for a musical tour in Iraq, Afghanistan or the two naval carrier groups stationed in the Persian Gulf" if his officers deem it necessary. Another officer told the Times
that he hopes Phil will bring all the finalists with him, as it's been hard getting proper entertainment for the troops overseas. We'd like to see how long Sanjaya would last in a war-torn environment... and we're sure the troops would love to see Haley in cut-off combat fatigues.
• Tomorrow night's installment of "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" will feature Snoop Dog and Tom Waits, but the two won't be performing together. Damn.
• Nickelback is back on tour
this summer. Somewhere, Chris Daughtry is pumping his fist in delight.
