What do
Handsome Furs,
Sunset Rubdown, and
Hot Hot Heat have in common (besides sounding like a very hairy day on the beach?). They all contain (or contained) pieces of
Wolf Parade. Fans of the Canadian indie rockers can rejoice: in just a few weeks
At Mount Zoomer (
Subpop) will be released.
The music, for new fans, is pure northern prog-rock goodness. These guys sound kind of like another infamous Canadian rock outfit...
Wolf Parade loyalists will note the relationship to
Arcade Fire: drummer
Arlen Thompson played drums on "Wake Up." Also the new album was recorded in the same church-converted-to-studio as
Neon Bible. "Language City" sounds like a dirtier version of Arcade Fire's grand composition, with some
Killers-esque synth behind it. It's a darker sound, and seems to be on par with what Subpop said about the album on it's website: "think of it as the sound of a band edging forward into a wispy darkness, one hand reaching out, the other firmly clutching the past." We're all looking forward to the wispy darkness on this one. -
