's career hasn't always been this confusing to me. Teenage Dream
is one of my favorite pop albums - it was cohesive and memorable and although it was weird, it worked. I didn't really follow her too much after that during her Prism
days but with her new album Witness
coming up, I'm starting to pay attention again. The lead single "Chained to the Rhythm" confused the shit out of me
with its "I want to get political but not too
political" lyrics, and the second single "Bon Appetit" featuring Migos
seemed to go for shock factor more than anything else.
Now, she's out with the third single off of Witness
titled "Swish Swish" (yes, that's what Kanye almost called his latest album before it was The Life of Pablo
) and features Nicki Minaj. The chorus leads with the lyrics "swish swish, bish, another one in the casket,"
and honestly I don't mind it. It features a heavy club beat and although I miss those California-tinged guitars on Teenage Dream,
I think I'm finally starting to warm up to this new era of Katy.
