I have a soft spot in my heart for J-Pop/Rock. I have absolutely no clue what any of the songs are about, but there's a glorious excess there (and an absurd ear for hooks) that is hard to deny. So, it's weird how much I enjoy a subdued (by J-Pop standards) track from Shintaro Sakamoto (a big star in his homeland). Sounding like a long lost relic of 70s soft rock radio (think Steely Dan in Japanese), Shintaro Sakamoto's "In a Phantom Mood" is one of the most bizarrely enjoyable tracks of the week.
