It's been a while since we've heard big noises from singer/songwriter Gavin DeGraw, with his latest album Free being a relatively unnoticed affair back in 2009. Compared to his hits, "Chariot" and "Don't Wanna Be" (the latter being the most noteable), DeGraw's catalog hasn't been anything to shake up the dismal pop-radio sphere dominated by weird sex-objects like Gaga and rap-hook combos driven by the likes of Rihanna and Kanye and other duos. With the success of Adele, however, as a plain and simple singer/songwriter with the goods, DeGraw COULD crack the top ten with a little help from a tried-and-true hitmaker. He might have found just the dude.
His new single, "Not Over You", was co-written and produced by Ryan Tedder (Onerepublic). It's kind of apparent that he had a hand in the "big sexy hook" of the track at least, it reeks of Tedder's signature melodic play, not to mention his over-the-top production. The Coldplay-Viva La Vida-esque piano riff is a nice touch too. But is it enough to dethrone the big crowns currently ruling the kingdom of Top 40?
