That freewheelin' singer-songwriter Kristian Matsson (known as The Tallest Man On Earth
) hasn't lost any of his panache. The man is magical with an acoustic guitar. There's No Leaving Now
, the next in his excellent discography, isn't due until 6/12, but the first single "1904" is being offered as a free download. The song is mostly standard TMOE fare-- with some electric guitar accents in the background changing the timbre a bit-- so rest assured it's got the same ol' heart. You don't have to embark on a wild hunt to grab it, either. Jump ahead.
Matsson told Rolling Stone
about recording the new album at the home he shares with his wife and fellow musician Amanda Bergman:
"This time I'm much luckier," he says. "I live in a beautiful place and I actually have a little studio." Time also afforded him the luxury of recording in a more traditional manner: while the singer had dismissed multi-track recording in the past, this time around he tinkered with technology. "I wanted to build something that didn't sound like a rock band, but wasn't super minimalistic," Matsson says. "I wanted a sound that had that brittle [quality], that feeling that it might just fall apart."
