Today we bring you a firey new track from a jack of all trades, HANA. In addition to singing and writing, she also produces all of her own songs, which you can find on her recently released self-titled EP.
HANA has been on our radar for a while. She's not a manufactured singer who popped out of nowhere, but has been performing for years, originally going by the name Hana Pestle. HANA moved from a small town in Montana to Los Angeles, where she met her partner, Blood Pop (recently known as Blood Diamonds), and best friend, Grimes. After a rebirth with her first single, "Clay," Lorde tweeted that the track was "too shimmering and beautiful for words," and we've been obsessed ever since. She's now on tour both as a support act for Grimes and singing backup vocals for Grimes and has a headlining show coming up at The Mercury Lounge here in New York on June 17.
For those who don't know what "Chimera" means, its defined as a fire-breathing female monster with a lion's head, a goat's body, and a serpent's tail in Greek mythology, and that could not be more in line with this song. The first line starts out with "Fire in my lungs / The blood is soon to run / The things I could do if you only knew / You'd pray that I cut you loose." Are you not scared? Well you should be, because HANA is a serious symbol for girl power -- a force to be reckoned with. She warns us that she may look innocent, but don't doubt her, because she's about to blow. In addition to powerful lyrics, the production is also lush and atmospheric, completely transporting you into a different world with a beautiful wall of texture. Her voice, filled with confidence, opens up an enormous space of triumph and victory.
Don't fuck with HANA.
