Very few times do we pop in a CD, and hear the first few whimsical bangs of a typical 2008 band trying to sound and feel weird suddenly melt into something resembling early 90's pop rock. And yet that is exactly what happens in the first minute of 'Great Bargains For Seniors,' off the self-titled debut of
Unicycle Loves You, a relatively below the radar band from Chicago.
These guys are offering the best of both worlds, a sound that is fresh and current, married to the best parts about songwriting from ten years ago. Go figure, the record is under the guidance of
Brian Deck, the same producer that brought us
The Moon and Antarctica and a few
Iron and Wine records. They'll be touring past their June 10th release, so keep an eye out for them, and definitely give them a listen. -
