After the break up of Das Racist, people were wondering if the individual members would be able to stand on their own. Now we know the eccentric personality of Heems was meant for greatness regardless as his new album, the amazingly titled Eat Pray Thug, has been tearing up the underground rap game. Heems is hilarious, yet deep. His lyricism is perennially underrated and his style is definitely his own. With a variety of producers, including the ever present Dev Hynes (Blood Orange), the album is pretty much everything you want and more.

Today, Heems released the video for the excellent "Sometimes" off the album. Featuring an old school beat with trippy samples, the song is very much Heems. His wordplay is on point as he raps, "Sometimes I'm 'bout chicks/Sometimes it's politics/Sometimes I like 'em thick/Sometimes I like 'em fit," Heems has girls and his race on his mind. The video is hilarious, albeit with a dark tone. Showing Eric Andre dealing with the unfortunate situation where he fears a fair skinned girl will see him as unattractive, he purchases a skin-lightening cream, from the infomercial peddler Heems, that he thinks will win her over. Little did Eric know, his girl was actually into black guys as he arrives home to find her in the arms of the blowing up comedian Hannibal Buress. It's funny yet sad. Some dudes just got bad luck.
