The guys in Reptar
aren't normal dudes. You don't name your band after a fictional dinosaur from a 90s Nickelodeon cartoon if you're going for "normal." You also don't make your website look like it's the desktop of a PC running on Windows 95 for that matter if being conventional is one of your goals. I shot Reptar at Bonnaroo back in 2013, and one of the members of the band showed up in a blue full-body lycra suit. It was one of those sets.
We've loved Reptar's unique identity and eccentric aesthetic ever since 2012 when they played our SXSW set in Austin (which you find at the bottom of this article), and the band is back with their latest video, "Amanda," and they're weirder than they've ever been. The track itself is relatively subdued -- it lacks many of the freak-folk touchstones of "Sebastian -- but the video is surrealist, psychosexual-Freudian insanity. Honestly, it speaks for itself. All I know is that someone in the band was clearly a fan of Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dali's surruelistic classic, Un Chien Andalou
