Interestingly, it seems that this song sounded less brazen when Rihanna sang it. Perhaps it is the clearly pronounced syllables, the soft voice that deeply contrasts the suggestive lyrics, or maybe we just don't really listen too closely to what Rihanna says. Either way, Anni Rossi's cover of "Rude Boy" is an eclectic take on the song that is usually full of heavier beats and heaps of attitude, but in this case still seems to be more sharply insinuative.
Having never heard the original, one might take this track to be a bold effort with a coy veil, but if you are among the many who were unable to escape Rihanna's ever-radio-present "Rude Boy", Rossi's delicate vocals sound slightly out of place in the cover. Although this is the case, the rearranged instrumentals bring a complimentary fusion to this shift, making for an interesting track that is definitely worth a listen.
Anni Rossi's Heavy Meadow album is available now on iTunes, but will be releasing physical copies on May 2nd from Syllable Records. Listen to Anni Rossi bring a folksy mix to a cover of Rihanna's "Rude Boy" below:
