Explosions in the Sky released their sixth album, The Wilderness, last week, and as part of their celebratory kick they had the chance to perform the song "Disintegration Anxiety" live on Late Show with Stephen Colbert. As an instrumental post-rock group, it's safe to say that within their genre they've triumphed as iconoclasts due to the sheerly massive and cinematic qualities of their works which few musicians accustomed to rock in general have the ability to pull off.
The track "Disintegration Anxiety," however, is one of the most heavy songs the group has put out in quite some time. The peaks of the song, which require a lengthy buildup, are booming and heavy, and provide some of the most energetic riffs the band has toyed with. To see an entirely instrumental post-rock band on a primetime talk show is something that EITS have earned due to their abilities to become figureheads within their own niche of music. Their celebratory debut performance last night is sure to gain some serious momentum for upcoming shows on their international tour judging by how much of an electric atmosphere they can create in a conventional rock setting through instrumental music.
