Metronomy can be best explained as efficient. Their slick dance-pop grooves don't waste any of your time as each song is littered with hooks that will stay in your ear for weeks. Last Friday, the sold out crowd at Irving Plaza saw that Metronomy was even more efficient live: they played through one crowd favorite after another, swapped instruments and vocal duties, literally never missing a beat.

Songs like "Everything Goes My Way" and "The Look" had an extra element of intensity live. Gbenga Adelekan's bass put some fire into songs that sounded a little more polite in recorded form, and the crowd felt it. The swaying pit in front of the stage danced up and down endlessly during the long instrumental sections. Metronomy's live show seems to be devoted, first and foremost, to making the crowd dance their asses off. And from the way everyone was smiling as they left, it seems like that's the way it should be.
