  • Coachella in Photos - Best of Day One
    Photos by Joe Puglisi

I took several hundred photos at this year's Coachella Music and Arts Festival at the Empire Polo Club, you may have taken the time to peruse them yesterday. But we wanted to highlight a few of the standout shots from each day, with a little more context to highlight the heat of the moment (that's right, Asia style). Check out some of the highlights of day one.

The carousel loomed over many of the Outdoor Stage crowds, just another iconic image of the Coachella culture.

Gary Clark Jr. melted more faces with his shred than the 108 degree sun beating down on those who couldn't squeeze into the Gobi tent.

The grounds were populated not only by stages, but plenty of art and structures to take shelter from the sun.

Arctic Monkeys were met with an enthusiastic early evening crowd on the main stage, despite not being able to understand one word out of Alex Turner's strangely accented mouth. Oh, and "R U Mine?" rocked our socks off. Just kidding, we weren't wearing socks.

Despite a lack of Tyler guest appearances (or anyone from the Odd Future click, minus Earl and Hodgy lurking backstage), Frank sounded much better than his first weekend's lackluster set. The kicker? His new backing band included a familiar face-- guitarist Mike Einziger of Incubus.

The Rapture's Luke Jenner looked good on the big screen-- so good, he later graced it again during M83's brilliant Mojave set.
