Every Baz Luhrman film comes with a heavy load of skepticism and cynicism. The guy did cast Jamie Kennedy AND John Leguizamo in major roles of his questionable film adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet
. Even his biggest fans surely find fault in at least one of his perversions of the classics. His latest grandiose refurbishment is of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby
, and its biggest blunder will seemingly be its soundtrack.
Initially, they knocked it out of the park with the musical centerpiece provided by Florence + The Machine
, but shortly thereafter Lana Del Rey's
bore-ific contribution nearly sent us packing. And today, they released "Together", the song provided by the sullen duo The xx, which leads us to believe there will be at least one slow-motion serious thought scene. Unless this snoozy, brooding tune is used during a steamy sex scene, I think I've found my pee break.
