Remember way back when, when
Isaac Brock declared himself
Ugly Casanova and recorded himself a solo effort called
Sharpen You Teeth? Sort of seemed like an easy excuse to record an album for the very label (that being
Sub Pop) that employed him as an A&R man, didnt it? Yeah, we thought so. And this following bit of news...well it sort of reeks of the same kind of motivation
though I dont think
Conor Oberst is currently on the pay role over at the mighty
Merge record label.
It may seem a little unnecessary (just try and convince us the
Bright Eyes moniker is anything but a musical project of sole ownership), but that doesnt matter. What matters is, Oberst is fixing himself a self-titled, solo release for
August 5th. Recorded way down in Mexico with a pack of cohorts known only as The Mystic Valley Band, Oberst himself can claim producing credits
though long time lending hand
Andy Lemaster pitched in on the engineering side.
Says the officially press release:
This recording was made in Tepoztlán, Morelos, México during the months of January and February 2008. In Tepoztlán, a place known for Aztec Magic and Extra-Terrestrial Sightings, a temporary studio was created in a mountain villa called Valle Místico at the outskirts of town
. It was there at Valle Místico that Conor and the band lived and worked for that time in near perfect harmony, often unaware of the hour or the day.
Conor Oberst and The Mystic Valley Band will be touring in support of the album throughout the summer, including a stop at the Austin City Limits Festival. Confirmed dates below:
8/22 Leeds Festival - England
8/24 Reading Festival - England
8/31 Electric Picnic - County Laois, Ireland
9/27 ACL Music Festival - Austin, TX
