Yesterday The Hudson Project released the lineup for its debut 2014 festival in the Saugerties, NY. Since Camp Bisco
fumbled the ball on proper permitting, this year there's been an open market for an upstate festival that could equal Bisco's yearly MDMA overdoses. The premier lineup, like every other festival this season, is a really baffling hodgepodge of classic indie acts (Modest Mouse, Flaming Lips, Matt & Kim, Dr. Dog and Cults), hip-hop (Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus, Atmosphere, Flatbush Zombies, and TOKiMONSTA), and hardcore EDM (Bassnectar, Moby, Big Gigantic, Excision, and Paper Diamond).
As confusing as that lineup is, what we're REALLY wondering is what the fuck the native hippies of the Catskills will think about this current generation of festival goers. To be honest, as sad as it may be, candy kids have become the turn-of-the-century replacement for the classic, Woodstock hippy types. Take some key points of EDM culture, for example: PLUR (peace, love, unity, and respect), copious amounts of love inspiring drugs, and the wearing of weird colorful jewelry combined with flowers. Sound familiar? If you've never seen PLUR in action, here's a preview, prizes for anyone who makes it through the whole video without puking or laughing.
Now imagine our veteran hippies watching troupes of these modern flower children catastrophes prancing trhough their backyards, "aw honey look how cute, remember when we were that risque? Maybe Phish is in town". Far from it gramps...secure your record collection cause that's shaking bass, naaaaht an earthquake.
If by some miracle the two generations intergrate, we're hoping it'll look like this:
