Polica Turns Down Tiffany's With Justin Vernon

Polica's moody, hypnotic electro-trip-hop captivated us on their debut Give You The Ghost, and if "Tiff" is any indication, their next album is going to be just as fascinating. "I don't want a diamond ring," sings Channy Leaneagh in this dreamy dismissal of materialism (the jewelry giant Tiffany's seems to be the inspiration for the title) that features Bon Iver's Justin Vernon.

In an age where autotune is still largely used to correct flawed pitch and maybe provide a "futuristic" edge, Minnesota natives Polica take the technology to a new level of self-consciousness, transforming it into a serenading chorus of angelic aliens and, like The Knife, pushing the boundaries of what machines can do for our human sounds. This time, though, "Tiff" tones down the robotics and exposes the diaphanous urgency of Leaneagh's voice. It's a transformation that reflects the lyrics' message of shedding your armor and focusing on what really matters: "Go ahead and play for keeps."

Watch Leaneagh rock the autotune and reverb on "Wandering Star" during their Friday show at Coachella:
