are a new band from Fargo, who write songs like dreamcatchers. When most people think of Fargo, ND, they think of Francis McDormand's unforgettable, insufferable northern boarder accent. But prejudice aside for the frozen tundra and its stereotypes, Fargo apparently has a few good attributes, like Secret Cities, who are far from danger of being thrown into a wood chipper. The shimmery gloss on their tunes is more like a box full of gold, buried somewhere in a snowy woods. Go look for it, you won't be disappointed.
MJ Parker and Charlie Gokey met when they were fifteen, at band camp, which sounds more like a punchline than an origin story. But their mutual musical interests drew them into a frenzy of collaboration, in the form of mailing 4-track cassette tapes back and forth from opposite ends of North Dakota. Many songs later, the addition of drummer Alex Abnos has made Secret Cities a notable voice in the spectrum of American rock minimalism. Learn more with "Pink Graffiti Part 1", a fitting introduction into the tumultuous world of the band's constructions.
