I'm not ashamed to admit that my Joe Jackson records occupy the needle more than any other artist in my collection (with Fat Boys and Molly Hatchet sharing second). That being said, I approached AM & Shawn Lee's
cover of the Night and Day
classic "Steppin' Out" with a cautious and critical ear. In a time when artists are constantly covering and remixing one another as publicity back-scratches, lackluster tunes has become evermore prevalent. But to my pleasant surprise, the psych-synth-rock duo have set loose an admirable and well-thought refurbishment of a 1982 relic.
I could sit here and spell out each and every intricacy, but luckily that's not necessary as the guys have provided a behind-the-scenes video with all the deets.
AM & Shawn Lee will release their second full-length La Musique Numerique
(French for Digital Music) on May 7th (pre-sale
). We urge you to check out their website
, as it's one of the funkier designs we've ever seen.
Covers of true classics seem to come naturally to these guys. Listen to a freshened version of Harry Nilsson's "Me and My Arrow" below.
