Born in 1989, Red Hot Organization (
RHO) was created as a response to the devastation of AIDS to a generation of New York artists and intellectuals. Since its inception, its 15 compilation albums have generated more than 10 million dollars for HIV/AIDS relief and awareness. The most recent creation, a follow-up to
Red Hot + Rio (1996), is the massive collaboration
Red Hot + Rio 2.
While the earlier compilations included notable artists such as Annie Lenox, Tom Waits, and U2, the latest is an assembly of contemporary well knowns.
Red Hot + Rio 2 consists of the artists Beirut, Neon Indian, Dirty Projectors, of Montreal, St. Vincent, Beck, Devendra Banhart, among others. Beirut's contribution, a cover of "O Leaozinho" was released as a preview of the June 28th release. Zachary Condon further proves his that chords possess no dialectical boundary as he beautifully croons in Portuguese.
