Pop music and electronic music and R&B have all been, at least in the mainstream, defined by a degree of bombast. Subdued and overstated don't tend to sell out arenas unless you're The Cure (and, to be fair, you don't get much more bombastic than this
). But one of the most exciting and unexpected trends in the best modern pop and modern electronic music and modern R&B is the streak of minimalism that made Usher's "Climax" possibly the best song of this decade.
New York/Phillie pop quintet the City & Horses
just dropped the video for their track "Re-Inking" which we are very happy to be premiering. And it combines the best of all three of the above genres to create a track that sounds like the gorgeous offspring of Jamie xx and Chromatics. Throw in a sci-fi infused video with holograms and distorted projections, and City & Horses have marked themselves as a band worth keeping an eye on. Here's hoping the band's next LP lives up to this track's standards.
