Thanks to the stalk-ability of Facebook, we have recently learned better than ever that we are all connected in many more ways than we think. The same is true for the music industry, as Seattle music extraordinaire Rachel Ratner discovered for her city. It only began as an interesting dissection of how many artists around the area had worked together, but quickly blossomed into a community effort of discovery. The list grew into an official map of interconnected music and was soon brought onto the web, allowing this map to continue its growth with visitor submission links. This is definitely an interesting look at how much influence musicians and bands have on one another and what can grow from this. In fact, this map is actually a rather touching portrayal of the bond shared by the music community. Expect expansion, as Ratner has admitted that this map cannot possibly contain the limits of Seattle, considering how widespread artist collaboration has become.
The site allows you to search and submit bands, and provides lists such as "Most Connected" and "Most Popular". Be sure to check out this map
, which will hopefully make its expansion beyond Seattle soon.
