Director Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) is teaming up with Hasbro (toy people), Jason Blum (horror flick phenom) and Scooter Braun (Bieber's manager) to make a live-action feature-length recreation of 80s cult cartoon Jem And The Holograms. If you're not sure who Jem is, you've most likely encountered one of her many glittery disciples grinding in a fraternity basement at a costume mixer.
While it's no surprise seeing Hollywood big-wigs once again capitalizing on 80s kid nostalgia by recreating a childhood favorite, Jem's producers are stooping to a new low — they want you to do all of the work for them! Today the trio announced on Tumblr that they are crowdsourcing the entire creative development process, from concept brainstorming to casting. On the surface it's an engaging way to help make the movie "we" want, but ultimately we'll be paying 16 bucks to see our own ideas on screen.
Watch them describe the concept in the video below, which is truly outrageous, truly, truly, truly outrageous.
I'm probably just bitter because they're remaking Jem instead of Snorks.
