One of my sleeper favorite records of 2012 was Bat for Lashes' The Haunted Man. I wasn't familiar with Natasha Khan's work before that, but she immediately cemented herself as one of the most exciting and ambitious songwriters working today with the album's raw emotional intimacy contrasting with its theatrical, ornate production...and don't even get me started on Natasha Khan's piercing vocal range. We've been waiting on news of a follow-up for years now, and the new record, The Bride, is finally arriving July 1st.
Bat for Lashes has shared two singles from the record so far, "I Do" and "In God's House," and we're getting a video for the latter. It has the vibes of a 70s exploitation film that bursts with stylistic flourishes nodding towards the works of both David Lynch and Terrence Malick. And the track itself which is a humming and surging bit of subversive angst is a masterclass in the vocal acrobatics that are quickly becoming one of Natasha Khan's hallmarks.
July can't get here soon enough.
