is having a good time. After releasing the well received They Want My Soul
last year after a four year hiatus, the band has been seeing a resurgence in popularity. Eight albums deep in their discography, we should all be impressed. All that hard work has paid off, as they're currently performing at SXSW in their hometown of Austin, Texas. Jimmy Kimmel surely saw the importance of that, choosing them to be a part of his special SXSW showcase where he is taping every show. Last night, the Texas band did not disappoint in the spotlight.
Still riding off the success of the album, the band played "Rainy Taxi" and "I Just Don't Understand". It's refreshing to see a band play a bare bones festival show with a focus on the actual musicianship. While there are several light changes, the lack of a distracting live show leaves the music clearly in the forefront and for good reason. These songs deserve attention. A special mention should to to the keyboardist in the fur coat, who jams out and rips awesome riffs consistently throughout each song. It has to be at least 100 degrees down there and that dude does not give a damn. Style points to Spoon on this one.
