Milky Chance - "Clouds"
Milky Chance released a new album today, Blossom, and this song is so funky and catchy. There's a bit of an African jungle vibe to it and that Clemens Rehbein croon is in full force. It's a such a fun track thatll definitely jump start your weekend.
Bishop Briggs - "Be Your Love"
I love how dreamy this heavy hitting trap-pop song is from Bishop Briggs. She sure knows how to make some bangers. I love how the ending of the song is soften with some strings, showing all the passion that's behind Brigg's vocals. It's a romantic track about how far a person a person will go to explore the depths of love but Briggs delivers it in such a badass way, of course.
Mac DeMarco - "Go Easy"
Mac DeMarco is one of those artists that instantly puts you in relaxation mode. When I listen to "Go Easy," I immediately daydream of sunshine and beaches - it's such a vibey song. It's great how such a crazy, kooky man can make such a gentle song. You gotta love Mac DeMarco.
Patti Smith - "My Generation"
After seeing Patti Smith live at Carnegie Hall last night, I spent a lot of time listening to her influential album, Horses. "My Generation" is a classic. She recorded the song at the start of the punk rock movement in the 70's. Every time I listen to this song, I'm reminded that it is okay to be angry sometimes.
Milky Chance - "Bad Things" feat. Izzy Bizu
Milky Chance just came out with their new album Blossom today! "Bad Things" features Izzy Bizu, whose voice you may have heard on HONNES' incredible track, "Someone That Loves You." Bizu has a sound that is soulful, raspy, and bright. Overall her pipes will make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. I liked that this song was unlike a lot of Milky Chance's songs. It has a light and breezy vibe, and might make you feel like you're on vacation in the Caribbean or something.
Good Girl and the Bad Times - "Love's Lost"
"Love's Lost" transports me back to the 80's. It's echoed percussions, cooing vocals, and melodic synths is just everything I look for in a song. It's the perfect song to jam out to by yourself, or with friends, I guess...
Feist - "Pleasure"
Feist is BACK with the title track off of her forthcoming album, Pleasure, aka the first album she has released since 2011's Metals. I'm loving this somber vibe that slightly rings in the distance.
Iggy Pop - "Nightclubbing"
I crossed seeing Iggy Pop live off my bucket list last night when he played at Carnegie Hall last night to celebrate Philip Glass' 80th birthday at Tibet House's 30th annual benefit concert. I'm still on cloud 9.
Alabama Shakes - "Sound & Color"
Alabama Shakes was at the benefit as well and when they played this song, I realized how insanely perfect and important it was. Brittany Howard can belt, but that's not the impressive part. The impressive part is that she knows when to do it. There's so much refrain... The detailed harmonies, the change of rhythm, the amount of soul and passion. I don't want to sound basic but I LITERALLY CAN'T.
