Wisconsin native Alex Schaaf moved to New York in 2010 and started up the band now known as
Yellow Ostrich. Followed by the release of their acclaimed album
The Mistress, these guys went on several tours with some hot bands and spent the majority of that time on the road listening to (and being influenced by) The Velvet Underground and Neil Young. Now that they're no longer road rookies, they're set to release their second album,
Strange Land. Schaaf admits that, "
The Mistress was a guy in a bedroom,
Strange Land is a band. In a slightly bigger room." The majority of the album was recorded in just six days in a studio outside of Woodstock, New York. After spending 2011 working on the album and touring with bands like Antlers and Ra Ra Riot, they'll be promoting
Strange Lands with a North American tour that begins at SXSW on 3/15 in Austin, TX, including their appearance at
Baebemusic's party at The Knuckle Rumbler Lounge at Peckerhead's.
