Tool followers deserve an award for being the most patient fanbase, especially after being crushed by a false rumor regarding the band's upcoming album. Last weekend, guitarist Adam Jones made a small joke around a few fans backstage about the band's upcoming LP. The joke resulted in a false report claiming the band finished recording their new album. The news spread like wildfire forcing Tool to issue an official statement to Rolling Stone discrediting the validity of the comment. Jones personally confronted the issue on Twitter acknowledging the comedic aspect of his comment.

Tool is currently headlining a national tour with a possible release date speculated to be sometime this year. Truth be told, Tool never stuck to the typical album-tour-album-tour cycle. The band's history extends over 20 years with a catalog of four studio albums. It's been nearly eight years since the release of their fourth LP 10,000 Days, and according to eager fans, this title may have been an omen for lengthy wait for its follow-up. Tool fans don't just want a new record, "They just need it/To Breathe/To feel the pain/To know this band is alive!"

The world is an entirely different place than it was back when 10,000 Days was released in 2006. Tool fans will eventually rejoice when the band makes an official announcement regarding the impending album. Until then, let's examine the year 2006 and recognize how much the world has actually changed since Tool's last record.

- Hannah Montana premiered on the Disney Channel

Since Tool's last album...Miley went from being the beloved sweetheart of television to a controversial tongue waving twerker. What went wrong?

- Twitter is launched

Since Tool's last album...Twitter allowed idiotic retweets of celebrity selfies and guitarist Adam Jones to "Stinkfist" the hopes of a new Tool record anytime soon. Imagine a world without #Tool? #ThatWouldSuck.

- Google purchased YouTube. Time nominates YouTube as its Person of the Year

Since Tool's last album...Tool should finally start their own YouTube channel and call it "YouTool." I mean, it's not like YouTube is a big music platform...

Heath Ledger is cast as The Joker in The Dark Knight

Since Tool's last album...fanboys want Christian Bale to prowl through the night yet they're given Ben Affleck just like Tool fans want a new record yet they can't get it. It's funny how the world works...

30 Rock premiered on NBC

Since Tool's last album...30 Rock literally began and ended its run before a new Tool record. Tool fans, please don't follow Alec Baldwin's lead and act like complete "tool's" after last weekend's crushing news.

Pluto is no longer a planet

Since Tool's last album...scientists shoved aside Pluto as a planet, just as fans are casting aside hopes of new Tool music. Don't worry, the waiting will pay off after a new Tool record is in our hands on our smart phones. Wait, neither the iPhone nor Droid existed in 2006?

Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii are released.

Since Tool's last album...Playstation 4 and Wii U were released in 2013, so an entire gaming generations have passed since 10,000 days. Let's hope the next album comes out before Playstation 5 and Wii Wii...
