Hudson Mohawke Announces New Album Without A Kanye West Feature

Hudson Mohawke is ready for takeoff. The highly sought after producer, most famous for his work with TNGHT and the legendary Kanye West, has been building his brand for years. Releasing iconic dance music on Warp Records while perfecting the new hip-hop trap sound with the mastermind Kanye to make instant classics on the G.O.O.D. Music compilation Cruel Summer and West's Yeezus, Hud Mo has never been more ready for the public spotlight. Last year's Chimes EP was a low-profile solid release that culminated in one of the best rap songs of the year. Now, Hud Mo has announced plans for a second full-length album Lantern expected in June.

Based on the tracklist the most surprising element is the lack of any high profile rap features. Since connecting with Kanye West, a slew of extremely talented rappers have rapped over his beats including Drake, Lil Wayne, Action Bronson, and many others. In fact, Hud Mo produced "The Rap Monument" which is supposedly the longest rap song ever with over 30 artists delivering verses. While it is not surprising that Hud Mo has chosen to keep the attention on himself, I do believe a feature from Kanye could only add to the insane hype for this project. I do have to commend him though for deciding to forge a path on his own. The man is extremely talented and the project will most likely shine without the need for any of these huge features, but as a rap fan I wish we could get them. Still, with grammy award winning artist Miguel on board, the album isn't entirely DIY.
