The 83rd Annual Academy Awards were Sunday's highest trending topic on Twitter. Although the ceremony honored the year's best with the prestigious statuettes, the program itself was worthy of a Razzie. Twitter's a beautiful tool that allows celebs to exclaim without a publicist's guidance, and those who weren't jeweled in attendance provided comical commentary as the "underground" hosts of the evening.
  • hear clips of the new strokes album
Just posted: 30 seconds clips of every track on the new Strokes record. Hear it while it's still real!
  • new music video: the walkmen
There's a quiet calm that should descend over the viewer as The Walkmen's newest video for "While I Shovel The Snow" cycles through. With serene gusts of hollow guitar work and Hamilton Leithauser's semi-strained soul, the song is one of Lisbon's iciest and most skeletal moments. Images of Hamilton and the band caught up in some beautiful snow globe of a world, quietly pacing the Brooklyn banks of the East River are a nice visual touch. "No life like the snow life", indeed. "While I Shovel the Snow" was directed by Jake Davis.
  • album review: the boxer rebellion
In the 2010 film Going The Distance, The Boxer Rebellion serve as the opportunity Justin Long's character takes to leave his unfulfilling job at a record label in order to pursue his passion. The band continues to represent this passion with their third studio album, The Cold Still. Though not forcefully dynamic, the album does an excellent job of portraying the more thoughtful, introspective side of rock. The Boxer Rebellion solidify their talent at transcending the crutch of catchy hooks, and rather, captivate with the power of vocal ability and instrumental melancholy.
  • new music video: matt pond pa
There is an ongoing sense of leaving, rejection, and desires gone unfulfilled in this video for "Ruins", as a pair of outstretched arms chases the band members of Matt Pond PA around NYC and beyond. The song is from the bands latest album The Dark Leaves, and is out now via Altitude Records.
  • mp3: the dodos
From The Dodos' fourth studio album No Color, "Don't Stop" is actually (funnily enough) full of color. It's a frantically forlorn track that has both peaceful and unsettling elements, steaming together in an eclectic pot.
  • celebrity round table: top 5 gaga egg tweets
Because the most interesting performance The Oscars offered us was Gweneth Paltrow's painful excuse for being "Country Strong", we're revisiting the eccentric Grammy oeuvre with a look back at the already legendary Lady Gaga egg in a new segment we like to call 'Celebrity Round Table'. It's a tweetversation featuring some of our favorite voices, and potentially, you!
  • watch: p.s. 22 perform at the oscars
A few weeks ago we mentioned those adorable fifth-grade rug-rats from Staten Island's P.S. 22 were going to the Oscars. Well, right at the end of last night's marathon telecast they showed up to sing one of cinema's most timeless tunes; director Gregg "Mr. B" Breinberg led the kids in a rousing rendition of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow". And although it's no "Just Dance"*, the kids nailed it (as usual). Watch below.
  • the week in tv
This week, most of our late night musical entertainment is brought to us by Jimmy Fallon, Conan, and Leno. So, basically, NBC and their disowned, redheaded stepchild. Chelsea Lately shocks us all with a worthy guest, as universally adored Adele will appear on Monday night's show. That same night on Kimmel, we are also introduced to Esperanza Spalding, who now travels full time with the Secret Service to protect her from the Beliebers-gone-bad determined to punish her for "stealing" Justin Bieber's Best New Artist Grammy. Performing on Jimmy Fallon's Thursday night show is Lykke Li, who releases her album Wounded Rhymes today! Also on that night's show is Miley Cyrus, who continues the tradition of SNL host's obligatory Fallon appearance, as she will be hosting this Saturday along with musical guest The Strokes. Should be an interesting Saturday Night Live, and until then, check out these performers during the week!
  • mp3: 1,2,3
Pittsburgh's 1,2,3 gained our attention last year with their singles "Confetti" and "Cant Bribe God". Nic Snyder and Josh Sickels were signed to Frenchkiss Records late 2010, and their debut album is expected to release later this year. The group's name may be unusual, but their music is a pleasing assortment of recognizable sounds. 1,2,3 lists Lennon as their number one musical influence, which is incredibly evident through Snyder's vocals and the rhythm of "Confetti". Once integrated with their synth pop, the Beatles nuances, in addition to their appreciation for 60's R&B, deliver a gratifying, contemporary interpretation of early legends.
  • out and about: girl talk
Photo by Winnie Cheung for Brooklyn Vegan

Nobody can deny Girl Talk knows how to party. Amidst balloons, streamers, confetti guns, and an entourage of dancers flooding the stage around him, Greg Gillis and his infamous bandanna took Terminal Five's face and smashed it into some berry blue Jell-O. Add to the mix, a Girl Talk concert is the CVS pharmacy of music shows. The entire venue was cracked out on various concoctions, losing their minds to the onslaught of pop music stew boiling around them.
