For a good time, call Das Racist. Their new mixtape, Sit Down, Man, is hands down the most entertaining listen of the year. But to dismiss them as mere entertainment would be a serious injustice.

What a crazy world. First we are waking up, and getting our coffee, and we're pretty bummed. Maybe we're walking around and looking at buildings, through our sunglasses with tired eyes and sore legs and a crummy state of mind. Maybe we drank too much. Maybe we get to work and we're pretty bummed, right before the sky opens up and shines rainbows into our faces, and our brains explode. What I'm trying to say is, a new Kanye West track leaked today, and it is the one that features Bon Iver (and a surprise spoken-word part by Gil Scott-Heron), and it is indeed the "festival closer" is was claimed to be.

"Spanish Sahara," originally by Mercury Prize nominees Foals, has gotten quite the makeover courtesy of dubstep producers/djs Bar9. The remix takes the quiet, slow-building original and transforms it into a dubstep monster with some pounding half-time drums, a choppy, aggressive bassline, and some unfortunately overwrought autotuning that's the only blemish on an otherwise great track. The remix, while not an official release, hit number 15 on hypemachine and is available for free download via Bar9's Soundcloud account.

Texas-based singer/songwriter Sarah Jaffe has made her music video debut with a video for "Clementine" off Suburban Nature. The video, directed by Jon Collins, is shot in a pastoral outdoor setting and is full of country-looking, suspender-clad guys - an excellent visual accompaniment to Jaffe's very country (but nonetheless enjoyable, all you "anything but country" types) singing voice.

Pete International Airport is premiering their second music video, for "Starlight," right here at baeblemusic. In this video, the band gives a stark, moody performance of the tune, which is a stark, moody number. For whatever reason, the whole affair reminded me inexorably of Joy Division, although I can't quite put my finger on any specific similarities.

Jamie Smith, producer with Mercury Prize winners the xx, has announced the forthcoming release of a solo single entitled "Far Nearer" on Numbers Records. No exact release date has been given, but the tune will premier tonight when the xx co-hosts tonight's edition of X-Posure with John Kennedy.

The Temper Trap gave a tight performance of their song "Fader" on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night in support of a North American tour that is just getting underway. The band will be in the States, Canada and Mexico through the end of October.

Guitarist Randy Randall and drummer Dean Allen Spunt formed No Age out of the remnants of a hardcore band in 2005. From the outset of the Los Angeles based band's first full-length to this, Everything in Between (the band's third), No Age's sound hasn't really changed too much. In fact, this latest album brims with a knowing loyalty to the musical elements that have unbetrayingly defined them: Layers of gnarring reverb, pounding punk rock riffs, and subtle drips of melody — all distilled between ambient walls of sound — infuse Everything in Between with more of what the band's fans know, and more importantly, more of what the band's fans have come to love.

He's a champion for the R&B crooners of the 80's. Had he been around to lace up some platforms in the '70s, Studio 54 would no doubt provide his social circle of choice. You can damn well be sure he knows the back alley shortcuts all the way to Funky Town. That's right. Funky Town. With capitol, proper letters. Not only that, but our latest concert video from Bronx born phenom Gordon Voidwell suggests he may very well be the current mayor-elect of the place, you dig?

Here, the multi-instrumentalist, classically trained vocalist, and freaky fashion connoisseur leads an equally colorful band through a party starting set at the Brooklyn Bowl. Peppered with delicious swings on the hats, clunky throwback synthesizers, and a Roland powered percussive romp, the set made for one sizzling summer night back in June as part of The Northside Festival. With an album dropping in the near future, and more dates on the way, it won't be long until Voidwell rightfully assumes the role he's already won: Mr. Mayor to all the delighted inhabitants of Funky Town. Daaamn...

The title says it all. "According to reports, someone in Manchester, England really hated MGMT's set at the Manchester Apollo on Sunday night. Ace Showbiz reports (via Metro) that the band's drummer, Will Berman, left the stage after a fan threw a 'glass full of urine' onstage, hitting Berman in the chest."

Sufjan Stevens often amazes with his depth, his versatility, and his attention to detail. He may be the closest thing the independent music landscape has to a 21st century composer, weaving harmony, instrumentation, and his expansive visions into epic constructions. Many fretted about the future when Stevens announced Illinois would be the last of the 50 States project (the whole thing turned out to be a promotional gimmick) and that he might retire from music entirely. Fret not; The Age Of Adz is here. His long awaited follow-up to the fizzling of the 50 States is everything you'd expect it to be, larger than life, beautiful, and awe-inspiring.

Recently there has been a whole bunch of talk about Icelandic superheroes Sigur Ros and their claims of plagiarism all over the world. The band is very vocal about their hesitation to provide tunes for selling products, although they often lend their sonic creations to films, TV, and charity. After saying no quite a few times, they've noticed a suspicious pattern of close-to-the-same rip-offs appearing in commercials.

Surrounding the release of their debut LP Fields, Junip is throwing a remix of their song "Always" out their for our musical enjoyment.

Typically we enjoy everything that John Legend and the legendary Roots crew do, including (so far) their soulful collaborative album Wake Up!. With Spike Jonze directing their live stream concert last week, it might have made sense to connect the album to the Arcade Fire song of the same name (Jonze is a well-know Arcade Fire fanatic). But in retrospect, it didn't necessarily make sense. See for yourself.

Lisbon, the new album from The Walkmen is a minimalist affair. Recorded in only 5 days at their recently relocated Marcata Studios, the new album shows the band keeping it soulful on some occasions, slow on others, country on a few, and downright simple on all.

Saturday Night Live came back with a vengeance, Kanye's GOOD Friday track was one of the best yet, and an un-official video for LCD Soundsystem made an internet-splash.

In an exclusive acoustic session we filmed earlier this week, The Klaxons were a quiet and mild mannered bunch, preparing an effortless acoustic session that seemed to compliment that demeanor rather elegantly. The danceable, intergalactic psych rock the lads generally powerwash audiences with, both in concert and on albums (Myths of the Near Future and Surfing the Void), came stripped of its percussive heartbeat, piercing guitar work, and lofty atmospheric flourishes. In its place was something much more lush, with an emphasis on vocal harmonies and the band's wiley falsettos. We'll share the video with you this week.

Ra Ra Riot have followed an alluring trajectory. The band has gone from small-town favorites to a national act, and their concert at Music Hall Of Williamsburg last Thursday seemed the perfect time to capture their ascent.

In an interview with The Canadian Press, Phil Selway, the man commanding the drums for Radiohead made the passing comment that the band might "throw away" the recordings they have made thus far for the next album and "go back to the drawing board."

What rhymes really nicely with N.E.R.D.? Honda CR-Z. Or at least that's what Pharrell Williams reminded the packed Times Square crowd yesterday as he chanted it from his perch on the makeshift stage. It helped that there were glossy CR-Z Hybrid Coupes everywhere with their insides on display, Honda-featuring Gran Turismo Racing Simulators, and rad Honda emblazoned 3D glasses. What we were supposed to be watching with these glasses I'm not exactly sure, but the crowd certainly didn't need them to give N.E.R.D.'s performance more depth.

Look, it's Friday and we're all tired and cranky and lunch keeps getting put off, and it's muggy in here, and everyone is complaining about that episode of Outsourced for various reasons, and what I'm trying to say is that this rap video featuring Lil P-Nut (emphasis on the Lil!) made this the best day of the week.

Weezer might as well be a brand of cars. Although they've had had their ups and downs with recent models, they are bound to get it right sometimes, because it's a Weezer, and people like them. Hurley, (clothing or Lost inspired, I honestly don't care) is a fine automobile. It's fast, it's fun to drive, and it gives Weezer fans the kind of catchy, bubblegum rock that made the band famous.

LCD Soundsystem made their first ever appearance in New Jersey at Wellmont Theater and as expected, they killed it. It's surprising it took so long being that lead singer, producer and mastermind James Murphy is originally from the garden state. I'm blaming Jersey Shore for keeping him out.

Twitter: The perfect megaphone — but not the vision.

Twitter in the music space is a true force. One loose lipped engineer at Twitter admitted that at any given time 3% of the micro-blogging service's resources were consumed by Justin Bieber related tweeting. Hype Machine converted itself into a Twitter game and quickly doubled its traffic. We know from the extreme example of Justin Bieber that people who use twitter actively tweet relentlessly about the music they love or are listening to.

Deerhunter have come out with a video for "Helicopter," a breezy, melancholy track off of their soon to be released album Halcyon Digest.

Controversial Brooklyn-based hip-hop duo Das Racist has released their track "hahahaha jk?" off of their new mixtape Sit Down, Man to the blogosphere as a free download. It's pretty typical Das Racist fare: ironically humorous lyrics delivered in an easygoing manner, backed by a cheesy beat.

Spanish dance band Delorean's latest music video for "Real Love" initially struck me as something that would be at home on Look at this Fucking Hipster, but I was proven wrong.

False Priest may be of Montreal's fourth album, but it's only the first time they have actually stepped into a real, professional studio to record. The band (mostly Kevin Barnes in the studio) apparently took to its new environment, because it has delivered a record that takes full advantage of it without sounding terribly over-produced and that stays true to the band's unique style.

She's probably most famous for her work in the hit TV show Gossip Girl, but it turns out that Taylor Momsen also fronts a band, The Pretty Reckless, and that the band is headlining three North American shows this October. The tour will hit Baltimore, NYC and Toronto.

Making the blog-rounds today, a previously unreleased demo of MIA produced by Diplo, who like the rest of the world, hates MIA's new record (minus the cuts he had a hand in, obviously). It's streaming now on a very curiously named website.

In the wake of the revelation that I'm Still Here, the "documentary" about his retirement from acting and foray into rapping, was a fake all along, Joaquin Phoenix returned to Letterman, where he gave an interview in character that appears in the film, without the sunglasses and beard, to support the film's release.

Yesterday I stumbled upon a video portraying everyone's favorite viral MAJOR LABEL SIGNED artist Die Antwoord. Ninja has to clear a few things up about how many times your can say "f*ck" in one sentence, and Jackal or whatever the f*ck her name is has to sit there and smoke an obviously fat blunt while he does so. Cut a few scenes of their entourage, shirtless, cackling at zef raps and babbling nonsense and you've got Straight From The Horse's Piel, a mini-documentary by Kobus Holnaaier that doesn't answer any questions, but sure does bring up a few new ones!

Yesterday, CMJ announced another 700 artists set to perform at next month's festival and this year is turning out to be as varied as years past.

A slurp of laid back, California indie pop is yours for the taking in this, our latest episode of The Guest Apartment. Here, Admiral Radley find a comfy stoop fit for performing on a luscious warm day in Brooklyn, strolling through a number of cuts from the bands recently released album I Heart California.

It's the sort of easy going session that makes sense given the roots of the band. Featuring members of both Grandaddy and Earlimart, the coming together of great friends and musicians happened rather casually. "There was a little downtime for Grandaddy, and a little bit for Earlimart too", explains Ad Rads Aaron Espinoza. "We thought, why dont we hang out together...drink beer and stuff. Oh, and I have a studio. Why dont we do it in there? Ok, why dont we record this hanging out?" In a similar way, this sunny segment of The Guest Apartment kind of has the same feel...only, now youre invited to (though we did have to ask one lurker who passed by to move a bit further down the block...he was creepy).

Remember our somewhat sarcastic musing on the sexual undertones of Katy Perry's appearance on popular show FOR CHILDREN Sesame Street? We mentioned earlier this week that the ice cream princess was going to be playing "tag" with everyone's favorite androgynous monster Elmo. Looks like we weren't the only ones watching it at work. Parents have been berating the sexy star's appearance all week and the producers have decided to pull the segment from the show.

No Ghost, the new album by The Acorn, is a study in modesty. Singer/songwriter Rolf Klausener and his bandmates from Ottawa are determined to keep it small. After 2007's Glory Hope Mountain, a concept album about Klausener's Honduran-born mother and her struggle out of poverty, The Acorn have returned with a record that substitutes space for specificity.

Blonde Redhead has released a video for "Not Getting There" off of their latest release Penny Sparkle. The video, directed by Timothy Saccenti, is a minimalist affair to accompany a minimalist, understated tune, mostly consisting of the band performing in a dark, smoky room backlit by piercing white lights with a few cool visual surprises thrown in for good measure.

Animal Collective released the video for "Blueish" today, and as expected, they get real weird with it. Trippy would be an understatement for these five minutes of bubbles, belly dancers, stars, dancing girl shaped constellations and phosphorescence.

Indie-rock up-and-comers The Static Jacks have released a cover of the Psychedelic Furs' "Love My Way" for the low, low price of free as part of a series of free downloads they have entitled "The Static Jacks Cover Your Favorite Songs." Their dirgelike take on this tune is dramatically different from both the original song and from their usual sound, which is usually more upbeat and is often compared to The Strokes.

It's time to talk about Sleigh Bells. With a new video out this week and a b-side making the rounds of the blog world, it's obvious that these sonic pranksters aren't going anywhere just yet. While many have touted them as a progressive style of fun and enjoyable music, I have to respectfully disagree.

Anyone who has seen our Brooklyn Bridge Park set with Rooney knows we love Robert Schwartzman's American Flag guitar. And we love that the guys having a laid back jam session out even more. Now we've got both, in an exclusive video the guys spontaneously recorded and sent to us.

Lady Gaga gave a speech about DADT the other day. Sure, Lady Gaga. Do what you want to do. It's cool that she is supporting a political cause and tons of people will follow her blindly off a cliff no matter what she advocates, but it's hard for normal people to take a podium performance seriously from a meat-dress wearing, loose-associating caricature.

Moneybrother effortlessly dodges a suspicious slow-moving character in the music video for "Born Under A Bad Sign". The stationary shot definitely gets a little disorienting, especially considering how tall it makes him seem (does anyone know if Anders Wendin is some sort of giant? Just wondering). WARNING: Some inanimate objects were hurt during the making of this video.

Singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Basia Bulat has recently announced a busy fall touring schedule, including a co-headlining US tour. She will be co-headlining most of the US dates with The Acorn, playing the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco, Halifax Pop Explosion, and Iceland Airwaves in Reykjavik, Iceland, and supporting Josh Ritter on his Canadian tour.

Like her hairstyle, fiery Swede Robyn's brand of pop is unusual; it has a right hook of club synth thrown in for good measure. In the second installment of her three part Body Talk series, Robyn returns with a heady mix of cyclical beats and girly vocals.

Recently reunited indie-rock pioneers Pavement made an appearance on the September 20th edition of the Colbert Report. Said Colbert of the segment, "I like them so much better now that they've sold out and gone on Report." In addition to an interview with guitarist/vocalist Steven Malkmus, the segment included a performance of by the band of "Gold Soundz."

Phoenix, who were really burning up the indie rock scene with their album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix around this time last year, were last night's musical guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The segment included energetic performances of "Lasso" and "1901."

A funny moment that unfortunately we can only reference as it was trimmed from our latest concert release. Deidra Muro, whose melodious vocals compliment musical cohort Paul Hammer's boy next door pairing at the helm of indie pop outfit Savoir Adore, does an impression...of Ben Gibbard...singing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame". She of course did not volunteer such an impression, but was egged on to do so by one of her band mates. And, it wasn't too bad.

In this performance at Brooklyn Bowl, the promising New York upstarts reveal an affection for bands like Death Cab For Cutie that might go a little deeper than cute impressions. Here, the band twist lovelorn lyrics and head clenching instrumental/vocal melodies, providing the kind of affecting twine that may as well replace the heart strings for tugging on. Plus, the band's crisp and tidy pop tunes suggest they place a premium on their craft. In short, Savoir Adore are a band to keep an eye on. Perhaps you should start with this set captured during last summer's edition of The Northside Festival.

Twin Shadow recently dropped a video for the song "Castles Made of Snow." Though the song was released as a single almost six months ago, it makes sense to hold off releasing a video until now in order to hype his already highly anticipated debut album, Forever.

Old time-y rockers Dr. Dog have put forth a video for "Shadow People", the second cut on the band's sixth studio album Shame, Shame. It appeals to America's love of roller rinks with a nice spread of Americana populating the floor, tons of traditional four wheel skates, sparkled outfits, old people, and synchronized skating. You can almost smell the onion rings (or feet, depending on your local rink).

Barring my own opinions on Sleigh Bells (some of which were lost in editorial limbo for some time), this video for "Infinity Guitars" is kind of cool. Things blow up, cheerleaders cheer, and my ears bleed slightly less than usual.

Katy Perry one-upped professional snooze-factory Will.i.am by showing up to Sesame Street jacked up on candy canes and ready to play dress-up. Her modified version of "Hot and Cold" is cute, but an over-sexed superstar isn't exactly always the best guest-star for a plot involving Elmo's inability to play dress-up with her. Someone send this ambiguous monster to NYU! He has got some sh*t to figure out!

It's that time! The most notorious music video makers in the business have created yet another one-take video. In the latest installment of OK Go theater, the boys dance with dogs. The "Wow!" factor is a little lacking, could this be the third season? The nepotism? (The video was directed by lead singer Damian Kulash's sister Trish Sie). It premiered on the Ellen Degeneres show (?) this morning, and the dudes will perform it live on Leno tonight. It's still kind of cool though so check it out! Puppies jumping!

Despite playing an almost note-for-note rendition of their recordings, Vampire Weekend kept the crowd on their feet with their Cape Cod kwassa kwassa.

A group of notorious internet monsters and trolls invaded the RIAA. Johnny Greenwood excited us all with news that a new batch of Radiohead songs are done, but also scared us all with how long we might have to wait (too long, e.g. more than another few days). Kanye moved G.O.O.D. Friday to Saturday again.

It's hard not to love a man with a sense of humor (or just a twisted sense of revenge). Jack Johnson was a little peeved at Samberg's reportedly weak impersonation of him on SNL (pictured above), so he enlisted his aid for the "At Me or With Me" music video. The storyline feature the two in an elongated tussle at a Jack Johnson concert, which ironically, sounds like an Andy Samberg joke. Several broken bottles (and chairs) later, everyone is laughing.

Brooklyn's disco revivalists Escort make an ode to the white lady on their new single, "Cocaine Blues."

Celebrities can often crash and burn due to the pressures of fame (or their own narcissism). This often leads to chronic drug abuse, prostitution, violence or a jolly combination of all of the above. However, it is almost unheard of for viewers to see all of it go down right in front of their eyes, on the big screen, in a well documented manner. This seemed to be the case with Casey Affleck's "documentary" I'm Still Here, which depicts Joaquin Phoenix and his retirement from acting, an attempt at rapping, and his quick demise into a schizophrenic world of drugs and paranoia. However, as predicted by many, the documentary turned out to be a fake.

On Personal Life, The Thermals seem less angry at the establishment, or perhaps more concerned with their own relationships and romances. It's a literally named album. Hutch Harris spends the majority of the time thinking his thoughts, and the band provides their trademark punk-y backup. It's got all of the sound and none of the God-mongering stuff, which makes it slightly more bearable for people who don't exactly gravitate towards the musical megaphone of political science. My own thoughts mostly concern the lack of politics being worth the lack of conviction. But is that really even the case?

Former model and singer/songwriter Karen Elson has released a... well... completely bizarre music video to accompany her (also strange) song "The Truth is in the Dirt" off of her debut album The Ghost Who Walks. The video is somewhat obscure plot-wise, but is full of ghosts, people made up like corpses, and candles, among other assorted morbid imagery.

New Jersey rockers Steel Train hit the late-night TV circuit - familiar territory for the group - in their latest video release for "Turnpike Ghost."

This is the year of the celebrity soundtrack... first Tron: Legacy secured some tunes from electro-kings Daft Punk, and now this. Today Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross released a free, five song sampler of their much anticipated soundtrack for The Social Network. It may be a movie about Facebook (this is my nightmare) but it's penned by Aaron Sorkin, who makes good writing! And directed by David Fincher, who makes good directing! The trailer is pretty intense too... we've featured it before. But Reznor's score promises to be even more perfect than the choral arrangement of "Creep" that sets the tone of the trailer.

Summer is dying down here in New York, (and it's Yom Kippur!), so this week the artists get a break. We've got kind of an all-over-the-place mix, courtesy of my musical schizophrenia (Thanks! Surfer Blood recently signed to Warner, which is great for them, because now they have a budget! In the video for "Floating Vibes" it's time to get lost in a world of lazily cruising TV channels (get it?) as the guys play various parts of infomercial and local programming (all with an old-school television feel). Grab your clicker and let's see some late night lawyers, newscasters, cooking shows, and do-it-yourself. Guitars may or may not appear where you least expect them.

Jukebox the Ghost has released an appropriately tweaky video for their tune "Schizophrenia" off of their latest album Everything Under the Sun.

Weezer may or may not have accepted some serious dollars from clothing company Hurley to make album Hurley, but it doesn't seem to be bothering anyone too much. The important bits of the record are the marriage of some older Weezer aesthetics, coupled with some of the new stuff they've come up with that seems to be working. They dropped by Leno to play "Memories", the first single and a song I happen to enjoy, and maybe you do too.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club released an exclusive iTunes Live Session today as well as allowing one of the tracks to be downloaded for free from their website. The exclusive live session includes tracks from their most recent album Beat The Devil's Tattoos, as well as fan favorites from previous releases.

Interpol's self-titled fourth album is to be their last with bassist Carlos Dengler. Whoever replaces him will have some big shoes to fill, as his busy but rhythmic style and interplay with drummer Sam Fogarino provide a much-needed spark to the occasionally draggy, but melodically and atmospherically dense tunes contained on this record.

Wild Beasts play music that is entirely their own. Not many acts can say they have a truly, madly original sound, and many of them claim the excellent Domino Records as their home base (Animal Collective and The Dirty Projectors to name a few). When we filmed the band, they were coming off of a successful year of touring on Two Dancers, their sophomore record. But before that, they had their backs against the wall, running out of money and hope of continuing their full time musicianship.

He once donned a bleach blonde faux hawk...the perfect stylistic touch to Fran Healy's vibrant presence at the helm of Scottish mega group, Travis. That was nearly a decade ago though. These days, Healy prefers something a bit more understated, growing his thick grey hair long, trimming a nicely peppered beard, and perching a worn leather cap where once his punky trademark peaked. The music Healy's making these days has also taken a turn. Gone is the shiny, Nigel Godrich produced modern rock (for now) of his predecessor. In its' place an overdue solo debut dubbed Wreckorder (pronounced "recorder"); something much more rustic, and a wee bit folkier to boot.

Draped over an acoustic guitar in a sundrenched community garden in New York's East Village, it's hard to decipher between the two musical eras of Healy's life. To the unfamiliar, our latest segment of The Guest Apartment could feature a host of Travis songs, or a batch of tunes that mark Healy's solo accomplishments. There's little distinction between the two because the tie that binds both worlds together is, for the most part, the same. "It's all about melody", affirms Healy. "We live in this time where everything has been mystified and complicated. Whoa whoa whoa... It's a song, it's just a melody. But when you hear a new melody, it's like discovering a new element that no one's ever found before. It's kind of sacred and cool".

In the end Healy gave us both melodies new and old, preparing two tunes from Wreckorder, as well as a classic Travis single. In between, Healy touches on a few bits of his past, some of the motivations behind the new solo endeavor, and some of the awe-inspiring collaborations it helped spawn. It all makes for a thoughtful profile of one of the bigger rock artists of this past decade.

Swedish indie Pop group The Radio Dept. have come out with a smooth, dreamy and politically charged (noticeable if you listen close) new single.

The funky, dirty Brittish funk outfit The Heavy recently announced that they will follow this summer's US tour with a another US tour this Fall.

On his first solo record, Brandon Flowers slides further into the neo-pop that took The Killers from gritty young bashers to polished, bombastic heights. Flamingo also demonstrates the strength of his melodies (and the goofiness of his thematic preoccupations). Flowers never was one for poetically dense lyrics, from the early onset of "Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine" (very literal) to the cries that denote the entrance of the record, "welcome to fabulous/Las Vegas". Sometimes you need to listen to each song six or seven times before you can get over the lyrics, but that's OK.

Critically acclaimed Irish group Villagers have released the music video for "That Day," the forthcoming 3rd single off of their Mercury Prize-nominated debut album, Becoming a Jackal.

Will.i.am reaches deep into the gravy boat of good ideas for his contribution to longtime Children's program and outlet for terrible guest appearances through song, Sesame Street.

You wouldn't expect a group billed as an "adventure girlpop duo" to be so obsessed with something creepy like Halloween, but Headless Horseman certainly seems appropriate for the spacey astro-tunes of Conner O'Neill and Fareed Sajan. Oh, and they were also both born on the holiday, so that helps. Some might say, "what's in a name?", but these guys put a ton of thought behind their moniker, and rightfully so... the music is as dense and lush as their explanation of the origin of "Headless Horseman". Meta!

A Place to Bury Strangers has released a very noisy cover of David Bowie's "Suffaragette City" completely free of charge for your listening... err... pleasure. The band ably defends its underground title as "NYC's loudest band" with this recording, which sports an nearly impenetrable wall of viciously distorted, sometimes to the point of white noise, guitars and bass.

The extremely versatile Tim Fite recently released his latest album Under The Table Tennis (available now for free-ninety-nine on his website). Recently he teamed up with director Ryan Foregger to create a video for the album's final track, "We Didn't Warn You", and we've got the distinct honor of premiering it today.

Dance-rock band The Royal Bangs have signed to Glassnote Records, where they are currently recording an album for release in 2011. Says label president David Glass, "We feel next year's album and tour will be one of the most exciting releases worldwide."

Thee Oh Sees have created a video for their song "Meat Step Lively" from their 2009 album Help. The video consists of tour footage from the band's pre-SXSW 2010 tour chopped up into 3-frame loops by filmographer Ada Bligaard Soby and rearranged in a choppy, spastic manner.

All-female indie-rock quartet Warpaint has released a free mp3 of the first single "Undertow" from their forthcoming debut album The Fool.

After fifteen years, it is almost expected for a band to have settled into a certain sound. However, it's also easily the first step into artistic stagnation and an inevitable fall into obscurity. This will not be the case for the New York based trio, Blonde Redhead. Penny Sparkle, the bands eighth album, shows the group taking a turn into a simplistic world accompanied by synthesizers, programmed drums and ethereal vocals revealing a completely new and refreshing sound. Although a risky swap, it proves a valuable one.

Five trillion... now that's a large number, and it has nothing to do with the US deficit or economic stimulus package. It has to do with comments. Every once in a while our Facebook Connect API burps and we see some interesting things on the site.

We always expect something special to resonate from an encounter with Stars, the veteran Montreal outfit lead by Torquil Campbell and Amy Millan. Specializing in an emotive and endearing slice of electro rock, the band lays claim to a sprawling, five album catalogue...each effort bringing with it the powerful potential to define a moment, freezing time and space, for better or for worse, so that the past can one day haunt and guide the listener in times of need.

Our latest brush with the band came under a vivid wash of color at always electric New York hotspot, Le Poisson Rouge earlier this Summer. In a performance weve already shown you, the band came to town this past summer to rally loyal devotees 'round their newest effort The Five Ghosts, presenting the album track by track during the first half of their concert.

What we didnt show you was the enthralling second set that followed that performance. "Your Ex-Lover Is Dead ", "Take Me To The Riot ", "Elevator Love Letter ": these are the songs the adoring audience knew, the ones they forked their hard earned dollars over to hear, the ones that, like we mentioned before, have been following them around with their sentimental, sonic tendencies for more than a few years. NPR has been all over the live stream audio game, broadcasting in real time from summer events like Bonnaroo. So it isn't too much of a surprise that they're involved with the taste-makers at All Tomorrow's Parties, and despite having no live feeds, they've got high quality audio from the Upstate New York gathering.

There is a newly created production of The Wall going on tour (with Roger Waters at the helm), and we had the pleasure of seeing it before it officially hits the road. The production does not disappoint, bringing the iconic eighty minutes of music to life in a show that is more rock theater than straightforward performance. Much can be said for The Wall regarding it's obvious metaphorical value, or its relevance to several generations of alternative music fans. But one thing is for sure, despite its themes being rooted in a specific time and place, specifically for (and about) the people who created it, The Wall continues to hold meaning to a large amount of fans and musicians across the world.

Sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose, but all the time you can expect epic failure when it comes to Courtney Love, rock and roll's most persistent STD. Here she sings "Bad Romance" and knows about 14% of the words. Do I need to elaborate further?

Although they are without a doubt some of the finest musicians to be touted by taste-makers (with an incredible album to back up those claims), the odd-rock of The Dirty Projectors found an initially difficult footing in the cavernous soundholes of Terminal Five. Despite some early sound imbalance, Dave Longstreth and his crew tightened up the noise and made for one of the best shows of recent memory. But no surprise there.

Megafaun is standing at the proverbial crossroads. Their new six song "mini-album," Heretofore, is a bridge between last year's acclaimed, Gather, Form and Fly, and their upcoming, as yet untitled full-length. These bearded North Carolinians have had a busy couple of years, making their own music, participating in the Gayngs project and touring with Akron/Family and ex-bandmate Justin Vernon's Bon Iver.

Durham, North Carolina natives Megafaun, are releasing the free track Carolina Days, in honor of their homestate.

The VMA's provided a nice respite from our normally scheduled preoccupations, as the winners are all better known as every thirteen year-old's iTunes/every hipster's nightmares. Still a few surprises made the telecast worth watching... unless you are a football fan, then your day was dominated by the first full day of the NFL (the guys who still write checks to The Hives). The Surfer Blood kids dropped some exciting news, and Kanye's G.O.O.D. Friday happened on Saturday morning (again).

Dead Confederate may or may not have set out to prove that Georgia's gritty rock scene can keep up with its burgeoning hip-hop offerings, but regardless of intention, Sugar is a rush of distortion and hell-bent attitudes. As far as audible explorations and epiphanies, Dead Confederates tell no tales, but they know what they are playing at... if you enjoy a man and his electric guitar swigging whiskey and playing variations of southern rock n' roll, this is your lucky day.

It doesn't take a space scientist to put together that pulling source material from comic books and setting it to music by Bono and the Edge (of multi-billion dollar corporation U2), giving it a sexy cast and a hint of the story of Icarus, and some outrageously absurd costumes, is BAD NEWS BEARS. But, here we are anyway. It's 2010, you guys. Anything can happen. Especially making a Spiderman musical called Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark, which sounds more like Tracy Morgan sketch comedy than real life.

Maximum Balloon released another dancefloor jam on their Myspace, this time with help from the Yeah Yeah Yeah's ecentric front-woman, Karen O.

Although people have mixed feelings about the robotic/angelic qualities of School Of Seven Bells (not to mention their matching tattoos), it's hard to deny the amount of ferocity they bring to the stage, or their forward momentum, or their well-crafted bangers, or their... you get it. You could scoop the energy out of the air and put it on a sandwich, and it'd be the best sandwich. It's obvious these guys won't ever be satisfied with the size of their shows. They want more, and they will keep pushing to get it.

Canadian rock duo Japandroids come out with their third of five 7" singles featuring unrealeased material from the Post Nothing sessions with the moody, mid-tempo anthem, "Heavenward Grand Prix".

Pete international airport (lowercase intentional) has released a music video for their track "21 days." The video is a mix of animation and shots of model set with buildings made almost entirely out of assorted vintage guitar pedals, rack gear, cathode tubes, etc.

In a search for some fresh ideas, our ambitious production intern began embarking on a series of evening-long journeys to profile a variety of artists from all angles, via questions and performance in one overlapping, concentrated, integrated segment we've dubbed "The Moment".

In our latest installment of the hypnotic musical series, Reuben Metzler focuses his lens not on a singular evening but an epic concert experience, embarking on a pilgrimage from NYC to Manchester Tennessee to capture a small slice of the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. Aiming his camera on a mlange of artists (Everest, Langhorne Slim, Dodos, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Imelda May, She & Him, and the Flaming Lips, for example) in a variety of unique settings and environments, this episode of "The Moment", like the festival itself, is a culmination of a lot of moments, attacking the senses in a scattered yet visceral manner.

Blonde Redhead kicked off Gilt City's New York Fashion Week at the Tribeca Grand Hotel on Tuesday night. Their set mostly comprised of amazingly galactic and moody songs from their newest album, Penny Sparkle, though they also played a few fan favorites like "23", "Dr. Strangelove", and "SW". There was an incredible and unique light show accompaniment with each song, which only elevated the impressive ambiance.

Gothenburg, Sweden may be most famous for spawning crushingly heavy death metal bands such as In Flames in the early 90s, but it is also home base to folk trio Junip, who have released a music video for "Always" off of their first full-length release Fields.

Houses, an Electronic duo from Chicago have come out with a seriously laid-back track. The ambient Soak it Up perfectly dances the line of happy/relaxing and almost sleep-inducing with its rhythmic tapped guitar line, simple programmed drums and light harmonized melodies.

The implications of naming your band !!! (pronounced Chk Chk Chk) tend to be spontaneity and intensity, two things Nic Offer and his roving band of insanity often epitomize. !!! have spent fourteen years developing their dance-punk, and considering the "strange weather" of lineup changes and moving towards a more and more jam based writing process (coupled with members scattering across the continent), their latest album may be the best embodiment of their namesake.

DOOMSTAR! reminds you that good garage rock is out there.

She speaks of being transported to other worlds the moment she places her hands on an instrument. She suggests music might be the best language in which to communicate. A little digging into her childhood past reveals a funny little habit of imagining fictional universes in boundless detail. And even as she pursued a career in ballet she did so knowing that it was truly the musical accompaniment that offered her the most intense vehicle for her own expression. So when an injury derailed her schooling at the Danish Royal Ballet Academy, it was only logical that Nanna land Fabricius - aka Oh Land - turned to the music she loved to reignite her creative passion, sending her off on an exciting new career tangent.

In this inventive new segment of The Guest Apartment, Oh Land takes you to the roof of our headquarters for a "picnic style session" that's unlike any we've ever previously encountered. Inspirations from the likes of Bjork, Portishead, and Broadcast seem evident enough, but Nannas skittish, electronic numbers suggest shes using those directional queues to find her own place with her music. Where will it take her? With an American debut slated to drop via Epic Records sometime in the new future, its hard to say. In her own words though she imagines "a meeting place between something that is classic and something that is new and very futuristic". I guess you could call that her very own land...Oh Land.

The New York Based Marnie Stern and her label, Kill Rock Stars, have released the second single off of her forthcoming self-titled third album.

The serendipitous arrival of Band Of Horses in the exact town on the exact day when a couple (who got engaged at a BoH show) were planning to wed led to more than just a coincidence and a smile... The band showed up at the wedding (as a surprise) to play "Marry Song", thus melting all hearts in the room and reducing present company to a pulp.

Land Of Talk has always sounded like they could be the impressive garage band of that one swoon-worthy girl from your English class. But a thorough listen to Cloak and Cipher, the Montreal trios ambitious third release, reveals that these guys wont stay the best kept secret on the block for long.

Frequently touted as one of the best duos in rap history, Outkast continue to hint at their glory days with collabs from members Andre 3000 and recent talk-of-the-town Big Boi. The b-side from Sir Lucious Leftfoot: The Son Of Chico Dusty (Boi's blistering solo album) featuring the two together ("Looking For Ya") recently underwent a remix makeover. This new "Jedi" version is so excruciatingly good, it's a painful reminder of just how abysmal (and detrimental) the label disputes keeping Andre off the record really were. F*cking suits.

New York city's electronic music festival, Electric Zoo, is only in its second year, but it brought in hordes of ravers in varying amounts of clothing and varying states of inebriation, and a star-studded lineup of DJs and electronic music acts spread out over four stages on Randall's Island. One guy can only hit so many acts, but here's the highlights of my day.

Seattle based up-and-comers The Moondoggies have released the first track of their forthcoming sophomore album Tidelands as a free download.

Despite a difficult short list of qualified albums, The XX came out on top yesterday, beating favorites like Mumford and Sons, Wild Beasts, Klaxons, and more.

Indie-pop collective Belle and Sebastian has made the title track of their forthcoming album Belle and Sebastian Write About Love available for just an email address to the first 20,000 fans willing to provide one.

The boys from Klaxons are back, and they're angry. At whom or what, exactly, I'm not sure, but the added grit is a welcome layer to top off the now defunct "new rave" designation Klax rode into the limelight three years ago. Surfing the Void as a whole is more sophisticated than 2007's Myths of the Near Future. It's sonically denser and more abstract; two qualities which often get misinterpreted as maturation. Don't be fooled. While the album might seem like it traded in its dance shoes for loud prog-punk studio cred, Surfing the Void retains most of the defiant, genre-bending "I don't give a f*ck"-attitude that made their first album good to begin with, harnessed into a different, angry space for a different, angry time.

Folk artist The Tallest Man on Earth's new EP, Sometimes the Blues Is Just a Passing Bird, has been made available today exclusively on iTunes in advance of its official CD and vinyl release on Dead Oceans, set for November 9th.

We're crossing the streams today... first up, amidst rumors of a commercial deal and a full album leak, Weezer have yet to remove their box spectacles and sigh. Instead, they've pressed ahead with a full album stream of their forthcoming umpteenth CD, Hurley, not named for but sporting a portrait of the large, lovable, Lost character. As he'd put it: "dude"! Beyond that, NPR, king of the streams, has fourteen albums going for their "14 for 14" series, including Junip and The Walkmen.

A pesky bunch of Brooklynites we've had our eye on for the past couple years, Suckers' psychedelic pop skirmishes offers listeners a wicked plunge into a melodious world that is untamed, extravagant, and unyielding. Referencing the band's intrepid debut Wild Smile, our own Selden Paterson noted, "Suckers take a beautifully compiled bank of a few riffs and few vocal tricks, and throw them into every imaginable combination to construct an album that's an impressive balancing act. Juggling their instincts of slow and fast, upbeat and laidback, weird and normal-ish, sinister and animated, they've got all the elements and Wild Smile is the perfectly choreographed chaos worthy of listening to on repeat for sure." That kind of repeat behavior generally leads to the live arena, which is where we find the band in our latest concert release.

Taking the stage of the Bowery Ballroom late last spring, Suckers present some of Wild Smile best moments to a hometown audience happy to have them back from their tour in support of Local Natives. Here, the band brew an indigenous blend of singing, shouting, stomping, and chanting, all while pairing eccentric audibles with the kind of inventive presentation elements that are just not possible when merely plugged into a pair of ear buds. Donning capes, profane spears of sharpie on their bodies, and quirky styles of play (the best coming from drummer Brian Aiken), Suckers smack a wild smile on the face of anyone who encounters them. Thanks to our latest concert release, that might mean your mug as well.

We knew Suckers offered some pretty strange vibes through the inventive psychedelic pop skirmishes they serve up on stage. We didnt expect those vibes to translate to the street when we chatted with the band outside of a sold out show at the Bowery Ballroom. While discussing their debut album Wild Smile, some pretty interesting things started to happen. Have a look in this exclusive interview with the band.

In America, we have a holiday to celebrate how hard our laborers have been working by not working at all! Ironically enough, no one really works all that hard leading up to the day named for how hard we work. Actually I think it just means the end of summer. What I'm trying to say is, Space Cat should be our mascot.

It's Friday, and we're all scrambling to the beach somewhere (some North, some South, all crossing fingers that a hurricane doesn't find us). But it wouldn't be very fair if we didn't provide the soundtrack to your weekend (like we always do), so I put together a few choice favorite tracks from the last few weeks. ENJOY.

The members of Secret Cities have one of those romantic band bios, drawn together as teenagers at band camp over a mutual love of psychedelia, MJ Parker and Charlie Gokey remained musical pen pals from opposite sides of North Dakota. After years of exchanging mixtapes and amassing collaborations on 4-track recordings, the duo released a record under the moniker The White Foliage in 2005. After a little reshuffling and addition of drummer Alex Abnos, the trio scored a spot on the Western Vinyl roster and was reborn as Secret Cities with a new full-length Pink Graffiti in tow.

You know, dancing in a dimly, awkwardly lit room in flowing clothes is a pretty apt metaphor for the emphatically beautiful tunes of Elizabeth Powell and Land Of Talk. The Benders keep pumping out the visuals to Big Echo tracks; this time to the shimmy that propels "All Day Daylight". Here the band prepares a jam for all seasons, marking the passage of a full year in just under four minutes. Man...its just all so fleeting, isnt it?

Not many people seem to know that Nintendo rockers The Depreciation Guild were a band on their own before their more well known gig playing in Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. No matter, their second record Spirit Youth finds them in good health, making the glorious video-game pop that originally sparked their blog fame. Sara Bareilles is a charming, funny person,and this quality really reverberates on every track on Kaleidoscope Heart. The songs are individually crisp, catchy, and fun, the way good pop music should taste and feel, but they read in succession, like a story.

Sub Pop announced today that they've signed a new act, a buzzy, artsy hip-hop collective known as Shabazz Palaces. The Seattle group self-released two EPs in 2009, gathering attention from critics and fans alike. Sub Pop took notice as well, and decided to put it in ink... they will release the groups debut album in early 2011.

This ALMOST slipped right by me! We didn't feature this in our weekly TV rundown but the Audio Perv caught it (they always do). The great up-and-coming DC rock band Jukebox The Ghost made their network TV debut on Letterman and it was pretty great! Check it out after the jump.

Slack rockers Wavves have a close encounter of the radical kind in this Green Label Sound prepared video to the gnarly thrash of "Post Acid". Its a pretty sweet relationship that gets forged when a groovy little green guy falls from space to skate with the boys, experiment with fashion, and eventually rip through a set with the band. Ultimately, hes not of this world though, setting the scene for a gut wrenching, fond farewell. BONUS! See if you can spot the John Norris cameo as well (um, youll spot the John Norris cameo).

Yeah. It's called "Wedding Bells" and it was the surprise ending of yesterday's Apple circle-jerk. Of course Steve brought Chris Martin in to play a song, he named his kid after the company!

This gorgeously realized stop motion video comes to you courtesy of Canadian outfit The Acorn. It was directed by Bill Ayers, and of course a lot of people are asking where all the funding for it came from.

In anticipation of their next record, If I'm Ancient, scuzzy odd-rockers Carnivores have been teasing our taste buds with brand spanking new music videos. Today we're premiering "Parent's Attic", a compendium of colorful visuals that match well with the song's shifty time signature and aural ADD. Check out the whole package after the jump.

Chiddy Bang (comprised of Chiddy and producer Xaphoon Jones) have been making a splash with their alternative-leaning samples and Chiddy's unique flow. Devotees will recall I caught their show last week. Appropriately titled The Preview, the eight song EP will act as a prologue to their debut, The Swelly Life due in early 2011.

On Familial, his first solo album, Phil Selway tries to maintain a balance between his folk pursuits and the nagging schizophrenic panic that coats nearly everything he has drummed on in his career. Radiohead, arguably the largest alternative rock band in the world today, has existed at the crux of a number of paradigm shifts, including a best-selling album comprised of jarring, weirdo minimalism. So there is the elephant. Like many drummers before him, Selway tries to detach for his solo project, but it's impossible... it oozes into the cracks of Familial, filling in the negative space, and those momements wind up making the whole thing worth listening to in the first place.

A double dose of music videos from an artist we've known would find it easy to hitch a ride 'round the world aboard her dusty soul and country rock concoctions. It's Lissie's born and raised kind of mid-west mystique that we've always been fond of, though we weren't quite prepared for it to be slice and diced with some surprising pop hooks on her full-length debut Catching A Tiger. It's a welcome addition, seemingly making this extremely talented musician sound even that much more so.

We've had a stellar summer, and these last few weeks have only furthered our enthusiasm for delivering fresh content to you guys. Today our CEO David Moffly passed along some words he'd like to share with the Baeble community (that's you!), please find his open letter to you all, enclosed below.

John Mayer has often demonstrated his unique editorial voice in various settings, including his colorful remarks during interviews and his prolific Twitter feed. So yeah, this is kind of awesome.

Let's watch the new music video for Phil Selway's first single off of Familial, his recently released solo effort. "By Some Miracle" features an inventive suicide, unfolding in super slow motion. It's a little more straightforward than your typical mind-melting Radiohead weirdness, but no less pretty (kind of like Familial as a whole; more on that later).

Cee Lo is the late-entry hit of the summer. "F*ck You" is already at the top of most people's playlists (including the cutesy word focused video), but this is sure to cement it's place at number one. Behold, a new video for the track, featuring a little Cee Lo on his way to maturity, via the various stages of his life he was forced to utter that four letter word to his "sweetheart".

Most bands never tame the kind of un-explained, creative vigor that helped inspire School of Seven Bells' stunning, sophomore album Disconnect From Desire. An absolute tour de force of a record, the collection weaves sophisticated washes of electronic pastiches, gentle yet affecting vocal harmonies, ferocious rhythmic back bones, and emotional flights of pen together in to the kind of intense listening experience that puts all senses on high alert. Explains the band's guitarist and resident producer Ben Curtis, "The idea for the record...the sound of it, the content, the title, the way it was going to go down...it hit us like a bolt of lightning. It happened really quickly, and it was written in a much more concise period of time. So it's much more a moment of our lives".

That moment's artistic representation is impressive to say the least. So much so we've had a hard time following the enlightened advice the band etched across the cover of Disconnect.... No, we've wanted to work with SVIIB for far too long, and the band's recent release only intensified that desire. Last month we got our wish, perching the band high atop a rooftop in the West Village for a golden hour segment of The Guest Apartment.

What follows is a compelling moment of it's own, standing in sharp contrast to the robust nature of Disconnect.... Here, four of that album's richest tracks get trimmed down to acoustic threads rarely seen from this electro-rock three piece. A pair of acoustic guitars, some enriching synthetics, and Claudia and Alejandra Deheza's lovely harmonies: that's all the band needs to shape this bewitching performance.

However, in retrospect, there is one problem that immediately comes to mind. I suspect our latest segment of The Guest Apartment will also make it hard for you to follow the band's sage advice. No, School of Seven Bells will only leave you desiring just a bit more of this extraordinary band. - David Pitz

A few years ago, famous person Joaquin Phoenix, star of such films as Gladiator, Walk The Line and Signs, took a hard left turn while driving on the windy road of life. He told the world he wanted to quit acting and become a rapper. He gained some weight, grew a beard and a set of permanent sunglasses, and gave us some very entertaining Youtube videos of him beating up fans at rap shows. Later, it was revealed that pseudo-famous person Casey Affleck and supporting actor of such films as Chasing Amy and other films starring his brother, would direct a documentary about the transformation. Naturally, some people were skeptical.

Only the crazy world we live could somehow generate this wonderful Wednesday morning present. On August 23rd 2009, 50 fans in Prague decided to attend a show and capture the action from multiple vantage points. Combine that with professional audio from the band, and you have Prague DVD, by something (or someone) called Nataly, 100% free for anyone to download in a variety of formats. You got to love those Czechs.

Why does one of the driving forces of forward-thinking music criticism insist on frequently dwelling in the past? The self-proclaimed source for rising music often finds itself knee-deep in decades long past, categorizing and ordering songs according to the whims of the editors. But why? And should we be paying attention? Let's take a moment to talk about it now, so I don't have to talk about it anymore.

We've been hit with a painful burst of 80's nostalgia in all mediums (film remakes, TV series reboots), but the one form of retro we'll never get tired of is music. Estate (not to be confused with New Jersey surf-rockers Real Estate) are a UK throwback band who play some tunes worthy of a John Hughes placement. The beats are a little Javelin, a little Daft Punk, and all leg-warming glory. Great for a driving on the highway in a heat of the moment montage, but I think it will be PERFECT for those Labor Day late night beach bonfires! Grab a girl (or boy) and party like it's 1989.
