About a month ago, Dev Hynes of Blood Orange
and Byrndon Cook of Starchild & The New Romantic debuted their slow jam "Hymn," from their new collab they're calling VeilHymn. The first track by the two groundbreaking artists features shades of P-funk and 80's pop, with lyrics that deal with insecurity and mental health.
The video was shot in Jamaica by Director Malia James, with choreographer by Juri Onuki, a frequent Dev Hynes collaborator. The video starts with a little boy walking down the street singing the chorus to the song, this is followed by shots of men and women dancing in intimate settings on the island in 60's inspired attire. The video then comes full circle, ending with with a women singing the chorus while putting on makeup. The duo also released a VR version where you can see the behind the scenes while you watch.
The video is warm tender feelings all around and has me wishing for nice weather and more songs from VeilHymn.
