Jimmy Fallon was the most recent stop on Jim James'
network TV promotional blitz for his first solo album Regions Of Light and Sounds Of God
, and it was pretty effing fantastic. Earlier today we reviewed the album
, and we were eager to see how the music translated to a live setting. The Roots joined him for what will probably go down as his most epic televised performance. Beginning on a somber tone, James starts with a minimal feel as he is flanked by only two acoustic guitarists. As the song gains momentum, so do the theatrics. More and more instruments start to join the party until the stage is bustling with brass, strings, and all sorts of percussion. By that time, the song has completely evolved into a 50s style jam ballad. Luckily, James dropped the cape for a classy suit and tie look. This is exactly the kind of performance that only Jim James is capable of producing. We look forward to his sit in with The Roots on Fallon again tonight.
