I've been to Bonnaroo three times (and will be making my fourth trip down to the Farm this summer), and each year, I prep for the festival by listening to at least a couple songs by every band that's playing (it's as time-consuming as it sounds). And one of the bands whose music I immediately fell in love with but never got to see on the Farm was Rebelution who played in 2012. The Santa Barbara, CA neo-reggae act is a festival staple for the good vibes they bring, and the band's frontman Eric Rachmany has teamed up with DJ/producer Amp Live for a new project, Unified Highway.
We've got the exclusive premiere of a new Unified Highway track, a cover of R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion." I'm a huge R.E.M. fan, and "Losing My Religion" is one of the sort of canon tracks of the 1990s, but Unified Highway more than do justice with their spin on the classic tune by adding melancholic island vibes to Michael Stipe's "stuck in the midst of existential desperation in the South" anthem.
