LIGHTS has just dropped a new video for "Running With The Boys" off her 2014 release Little Machines and I'm in love.
The video has a fairly simple format. Opening with a shot of bikes parked up against a garage door, four girls run in to claim them, don full wolf masks, and take off on a midnight adventure. As the masks get pulled off, LIGHTS and her crew of BFFS are revealed.
As I sat with my head in my hands, leaning into the computer screen, visions of my days playing with my brother the neighborhood kids swirled front and center as LIGHTS displayed an understated vision of girl power. Riding bikes in a pack, denim vests on, it's girl gang or go home.
No over sexualization needed to make LIGHTS more appealing. The lyrics speak about a universal topic we can all relate to...childhood memories. Capping off the video with the four friends riding off in different directions to get home my heart swelled with a tinge of sadness knowing those carefree days have come and gone.
