Over the last year,
Julia Holter has quietly been gathering attention with her ghostly, slow-moving electronica. Last year's critically acclaimed
Tragedy, which is based on the Greek tragedy "Hippolytus," was almost entirely created by Holter and expressed her talent of culling a unique sound without being given very many production resources.
Julia Holter has big plans for 2012. She is releasing her next album,
Ekstasis, on March 8 via
RVNG, and she already is thinking ahead to a third record. Like the first single for
Ekstasis,
"Marienbad", "In The Same Room" is led by orchestral arrangements of Holter's weightless voice and Casiotone beats. "In The Same Room" is one of those songs in which the artist feels at home, nothing in the song is rushed or stressed. With every play you find something new in the layers of keyboards. Julia Holter will be performing at The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles on Feb. 3, and at La Poisson Rouge on March 6.
