Like fellow Minnesotans Atmosphere, rapper
P.O.S. (Product of Society, Piece of Sh!t, Promise of Skill, whatever it is he feels like) delivers a stylized brand of hip hop that pulls upon alternative realms of influence as it tears its' way through the listener. The swaggering beats, the urgent banter; P.O.S. - real name Stefon Alexander - means nothing but business the moment he strides to the mic. Of course that's just the sort of thing one should expect from a fellow who found his first musical love in the form of punk and hardcore music.
Tomorrow, P.O.S. will release his (incredibly packaged, btw) new album
Never Better on the
Rhymesayers label. Yeah, his label snatched him up shortly after releasing his debut album
Ipecac Neat (they would later re-release it) back in '03. And his second album
Audition featured a variety of collaborations with the likes of Slug (Atmosphere), Craig Finn (Hold Steady), and Greg Attonito (Bouncing Souls). But
Never Better could be something special in that it will most likely mark the moment the punky MC
really finds the spotlight. Killing it over whirling swirls of machine gun drum rolls, budding up with a gang of burly backup singers;
