The Grammys didn't pull too many surprises (apart from that Nicki Minaj performance... what was that?)-- Adele swept three of the big four, and Bon Iver nabbed two heavily contested categories: Best Alternative Album, and the coveted Best New Artist. His speech was weird and pretty awkward. Only CBS! Let's watch some of the best performances!
The show opened with Bruce, which was a good move to keep the
60 Minutes audience watching (and all of New Jersey).
Alicia Keys and Bonnie Raitt did a quick tribute to Etta James, Foo Fighters got a hilarious, Carles-y intro from Jack Black for their "Walk" performance, and then Coldplay/Rihanna shared the stage for five seconds so they could each do their own hits and called it a duet. Semantics!
Paul McCartney performed a zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. And then Foster The People joined Maroon 5 to cover some Beach Boys, before the Boys themselves reunited for the first time in a long time to do "Good Vibrations."
The queen of the Grammys killed it, understandably.
The Civil Wars did their thing, Taylor Swift performed with some extras from
Les Mis, Glen Campell with The Band Perry and Blake Shelton doing "Rhinestone Cowboy" happened.
David Guetta and Chris Brown did... something. And then Foo Fighters crushed "Rope" with Deadmau5 doing the remix. This was all a tribute to Soul Train somehow. ?uestlove, please explain!
Carrie Underwood and the perpetual creepy uncle of every pretty young singer did "It Had To Be You," and then Nicki Minaj upped the weirdo quota. WHAT HAPPENED?
Jennifer Hudson's subtle "I Will Always Love You" tribute to Whitney Houston was humbling-- we know she could have let loose, but the singer chose not to overshadow Houston's own iconic version. Classy!
And Sir Paul closed out the evening with an "Abbey Road" medley, featuring Dave Grohl and Bruce. It was quite the jam session!
