About two years ago, Charli XCX
played a rocking set at The Hype Hotel down in Texas for the SXSW Music Festival. Since then, Charli has released her debut LP Sucker
and taken flight into the pop world with her "rebellious image" and "punk-inspired" music (cue eye roll). Reach back and check out a different Charli, in the midst of her rise to the top of the pops. At this point she'd already penned and performed on some chart topping mega hits, but she wasn't quite "Doing It."
You can see at Hype Machine
's Hype Hotel the stunning visual light effects (and her backing band mostly hidden in the shadows) makes Charli XCX the clear star of the show. Her vocal mastery is apparent and though young, she's obviously in command of the stage and audience. With a never ending youthful energy and a smile on her face, it's obvious Charli is enjoying every moment of her climb to fame.
So in celebration of Throwback Thursday, here it is: #TBT to that time Charli XCX tore down the roof at The Hype Hotel.
